As the years go by, almost every woman notices a gradual deterioration in the size, shape, and firmness of her breasts. Gravity, pregnancy, breast feeding, weight gain and loss all take their toll and can cause the breasts to sag, droop, shrink and flatten out. The breasts loose its elasticity and youthfulness.
A breast lift can reshape and rejuvenate the breasts. In the breast-lift procedure, as we perform it, the incision is a circular one, around the areola with or without a midline vertical incision to the crease. Excess skin is removed from the lower part of the breast, and the nipple, areola, and underlying breast tissue are elevated to a new, higher position. Incisions are closed with very precise, buried sutures that never need to be removed. The procedure takes about two hours, after which a dressing and surgical bra are applied.
Post-operative discomfort is well controlled with the prescribed medications. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few days. Most patients are back to work within one week. Most patients will experience some degree of temporary loss of sensation. This will improve with time, as will the scars, which gradually fade.
Although the incision sites may always remain visible to some degree, patients who choose to have this procedure are very happy with their firmer, younger looking appearance.
New Technique – In some selected individuals this procedure can be done by using incision around the areolar skin only without an extension into the breast. The breast is lifted and contoured from under the skin flap, however with this technique it takes few months for the overlying skin to redrape on the new breast mound.
