More than any other facial feature, the eyes have a tremendous impact on your appearance. For many, it can be a negative impact. Your eyes are often the first place to show the signs of aging. The eyelid surgery usually takes about one hour, is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, and is done as an outpatient procedure. Upper lidincisions are always made in the depths of the natural skin crease in order to make their visibility minimal.
Lower lidsurgery can be done in one of two ways. When excess skin is to be removed, a fine incision is made at the lid's edge - just below the eyelashes. Then, excess fat and skin are trimmed away and fine sutures are used to close the incision.
In cases where only excess fat is to be removed a tiny incision is made through the conjunctiva — the internal membrane behind the lid (transconjunctival blepharoplasty). Excess fat is removed allowing the lid to become smooth — and no sutures are even needed for closure.
No bandages are applied after eyelid surgery, and sutures, when they are used, are usually removed within four days. Any swelling and bruising can be minimized by keeping cold compresses on your eyes. Most of our patients are up and around one or two days after the procedure and usually return to work in a week or even less.
